Short answer
Yes, EvronDesk works offline. Orders and payments are saved on the device and sync automatically when the internet returns. Registers and handhelds keep working through an outage for up to seven days.
Why offline mode matters
Most cloud POS outages aren't the provider's fault. A router reboots, the broadband drops in a storm, a contractor cuts a cable, or the Wi-Fi just can't reach the terrace. Without offline mode, each of those becomes a queue, a stack of paper tickets and an evening of re-entering orders. With it, most guests never notice.
What keeps working
- Taking orders on registers and handhelds, with all modifiers and prices
- Recording cash, card-terminal, wallet and gift card payments
- Printing receipts and kitchen tickets on locally connected printers
- Discounts and split bills
- A clear "Offline" banner and a count of sales waiting to sync
What waits for the connection
- New orders from your website, QR codes and delivery apps
- Stripe online payments
- Emailed, SMS and WhatsApp receipts
- Live updates between devices (each device carries on with its own orders)
- Reports, which catch up once everything has synced
How sync works
Each offline sale gets a unique ID on the device. When the connection comes back, the device sends its outbox in order. If the same sale arrives twice, the server recognises it and ignores the duplicate, so a flaky connection can't double-charge or double-count anything. Stock, loyalty points and reports update as the sales arrive.
Setting up for outages
- Put the main register and kitchen screen on a wired connection if you can.
- Keep a phone hotspot or a 4G/5G router as a backup, and test it once.
- Choose a card terminal with its own SIM or a fallback mode, and learn how its offline mode works.
- Keep receipt and kitchen printers connected to devices directly (USB or Bluetooth), or on a network that doesn't depend on your broadband.
Frequently asked questions
Does EvronDesk work without internet?
Yes. Each device keeps taking orders and recording payments while offline. When the connection returns, everything uploads automatically in the order it happened. A device can stay offline for up to seven days before it needs to check in.
What doesn't work offline?
Anything that needs another system online: online orders from your website or delivery apps, Stripe online payments, emailed or texted receipts, and live updates between devices. Card terminals that need the internet for authorisation also depend on their own connection.
Can I use a mobile hotspot for my POS?
Yes. A phone hotspot or a 4G/5G router is a good backup. EvronDesk uses very little data, so even a basic plan covers a night of service. Card terminals with their own SIM keep working through a broadband outage too.
What should I do when my POS goes down?
With EvronDesk, keep taking orders: they're saved on the device. Check the router, switch to a hotspot if you have one, and let the outbox sync when you're back. Our POS outage guide has a full checklist.
